Poetry & Christianity Part 1

Does poetry matter anymore? Why or why not?
Over half of the Bible is poetry but in most churches, poems are not integral to how we understand or communicate with God - even though that's one of the primary ways he communicates with us! In this episode we talk about centralism of poetry in the bible, the act of creating art and how art is talked about or considered in evangelical spaces. We also share five poems (not written by us!)

Science & Christianity Part II : Dr. Stephen Jeans

Dr. Jeans teaches about environmental science, the conditions of planet Earth that are understood through the fields of geology and physical geography, and what people learn from exploring the matter of space and associated phenomena of the universe through the field of astronomy. He practices at several universities, instructing undergraduates and mentoring professional colleagues and novices in facilitating better methods with energy and creativity.
 
I talked with Dr. Jeans about how he first became interested in science, his area(s) of special interest, how he has experienced conflict in being a person in both academic and religious settings, and how Science and Christianity interact. We also discuss how one might scientifically test for the presence (or absence) of a person's soul.

Science & Christianity : Part 1

We go through the history of these two frenemies, covering Galileo, Darwin, the four horsemen of atheism, the complexity thesis vs the conflict thesis, and current wedge issues. Then we discuss how we learned about evolution, why science isn't valued in Christianity and vice versa, and if we gotta keep em separated or let them lovingly intertwine. Also, Kayte wants to know who hurt Richard Dawkins.

Reconstruction with Mason Mennenga

We had Mason on to discuss what happens after you deconstruct. Are we re-building? Are we throwing this thing out? Are we letting someone else clean up the mess on Aisle 3? 
 
We discuss the hardest stage of the process, whether or not the resurrection was real, what helped Mason in his journey, and why he's never considered walking away from Christianity altogether.

Part TWO to the Missionary Position!
We have Tracy Butcher, our little east coast baby, on the podcast this week to talk about her and Megan's experiences at Teen Missions International.
We talk about meeting each other, first impressions, the Lord's Boot Camp, the Ethiopian hotel experience, Harold the Slug, not being a good homeschooled child, misogyny, Special Blessings, voluntourism, and the unfortunate sweatpants incident. Plus a few other memories.
